JACK (THE COCKATOO)
Jack’s role at the Spa For Pets is to keep staff on their toes. Always willing to loudly express his opinions, he never lets anyone forget his presence. Jack can often be seen (and heard) playing on the floor of the grooming room with the small dogs. Another role for Jack is keeping the school kids entertained with his antics through the Spa window! |
Janet Alexander Thompson, Co-Owner
Janet comes to the Spa with a lengthy history of working with animals. Prior to taking over the Spa, she served as the Director of Operations for the Wildlife Center of Silicon Valley (WCSV) for six years, overseeing all aspects of the nonprofit from fundraising to public relations, helping it grow into a self-sustaining organization that rehabilitates nearly 5,000 animals per year. She is a founding member of WCSV and has served on its Board of Directors prior to her employment and has recently rejoined the board to help with fundraising and other projects.
Before joining the staff at WCSV, Janet was with the Humane Society Silicon Valley for 11 years, most recently as the Shelter Operations Manager. During her Humane Society tenure, she developed the Special Needs Department, which comprised foster care, breed rescue, wildlife, and exotic animal programs (amongst others).
Janet has been a member of the San Jose Animal Advisory Committee for six years and served on the Santa Clara County Animal Advisory Commission for two terms, providing guidance and consultation to our elected city and county officials.
Marcus Stephen Thompson, Co-Owner
Although Marcus doesn’t have any professional animal experience on his résumé, it was in large part due to his affection for and knowledge of animals that he met (and later married) Janet. He has worked for the better part of two decades in the high-tech field, as well as a professional whitewater river-rafting tour guide for many years. He thoroughly enjoys providing pet-sitting and dog-walking services to our clients.
Janet and Marcus have a home in nearby Campbell, which they share with three dogs, two cats (four are ‘rescues’), and a macaw. The dogs and Crazybird (CB for short) often join the other staff members’ animals at work (since one of the perks of working with animals is that you get to bring your own with you to work).
Tina, Grooming Services Manager
With over 20 years under her belt, Tina, our certified Master Groomer, can transform even the scruffiest looking dog into a work of art! Breaking into the grooming world when she started as a bather in 1988, she has really “mastered” her trade. Her diverse skills are evident each time one of her charges leaves, freshly coiffed and artfully cut.
Tina lives with her son Justin, and her dogs, cats, and other small animals. When not working, she enjoys kickboxing, wrestling and spending time with her Chihuahuas and other pets.
Amy, Groomer
Amy comes to SFP with over 15 years of vet tech and grooming experience. She has talent and flare and works with even the most difficult cats and dogs. Her love for animals is evident, and her calm demeanor soothes the animals while they are groomed.
Amy is married with two young girls, Tuesday and Larkin. She fosters dogs for Animal Friends Rescue until they find their forever homes. One never knows who or what Amy will show up with when she reports for work! Amy loves to relax to good music.
Justin, Bather
Justin has grown up around dogs and cats and the grooming business. Knowledgeable and comfortable with just about any breed of dog, Justin gets the job done well.
Justin has a great sense of humor and work ethic. Outside of the Spa, he loves to read and kick box. Justin also loves to compose and listen to music.
Inessia, Bather
Inessia came to SFP because of her love of working with animals. She received her cosmetology degree, but soon after decided that she’d rather work on furry animals instead of the human variety! She thoroughly enjoys working with the clients at the Spa and aspires to someday become a vet tech. She loves hiking, painting and anything that uses her artistic talents. Inessia greatly enjoys spending time with her family.
Mindy, Office Manager
With a special affinity for animals, Mindy began as a contract pet sitter for the Spa in 1998 while juggling the raising of her three children. Soon thereafter, she took over management of cat boarding for the business. Eventually, her job broadened into a full-time position managing the office. Today with ten years behind her, she is oftentimes the first point of contact for clients, overseeing scheduling, pet sitting, boarding and many other tasks.
Mindy and Jamie, her Cavalier King Charles pup, and Puggle Matey, enjoy visits to the beach and walking the Los Gatos Creek Trail. Mindy is an amateur photographer who loves to capture moments in time digitally.
Ashley, Office Admin
Ashley has been with the Spa for close to three years as a part-time after school and weekend helper. She is currently enrolled at UC Santa Cruz to pursue a career in medicine. Ashley enjoys drawing and painting, which she usually does as her black cat, Jack, and her yellow lab, Bugsy, try to help. Inspired by all sorts of music, she is also attempting to relearn how to play the piano, and keeps her motivation up by going to local concerts.
John, Office Admin
Our after-school team member John has spent over two years at SPF. He currently attends West Valley College, possibly pursuing a business degree. John loves to play sports, particularly baseball, tennis and basketball. Often confused for his identical twin brother Jack (a former employee), he spends as much time as he can at the beach!
Christian, Office Admin
Christian is working his way through West Valley College and is interested in marketing and/or music. He loves to run and exercise, play bass guitar, hang out with friends and family and looks forward to traveling.

TON-E (THE CAT)
Ton-E came to the Spa over five years ago, when she was found wandering aimlessly on the street in San Jose. Her chief function is to greet clients and sunbathe on the front counter in the late afternoon (oftentimes getting in the way of customers trying to pay and check out). Fed a premium diet, Ton-E earns her keep by handing out affection and an occasional playful nip for attention. |
